Brain Segments And Regions
Image Description:
An image showing the different segments and regions of the Brain.
There are two hemispheres in the brain: the right and the left. A cerebral cortex consisting of axons connects the hemispheres to each other. Distinct grooves divide the cortex into segments. The cerebral cortex is responsible for sensory perception, involuntary movement control, and intellectual function. Studies of the cerebral cortex have identified areas of sensory function and motor control. The areas between them are so-called association regions, which collect information from different areas of the brain. Such areas of association include the Broca region, which is responsible for speech production, and the Wernicke region, which is responsible for speech comprehension. Also, learning and remembering take place mainly in the cerebral cortex. The cerebral cortex works closely with other parts of the brain.
