Electroencephalography
Image Description:
An image showing an Electroencephalography test.
The various sleep stages have their typical EEG curves. An all-night sleep consists of several sleep periods, each sleep cycle lasting about one and a half hours, during which you switch from a light sleep to a dormant sleep and back again. After the first sleep cycle, light sleep changes to a blinking or REM sleep (short for rapid eye movement). During REM sleep, EEG activity resembles EEG activity during wake and the person sees dreams.
