Image Description:

The illustration shows the placement of a shunt which is used to treat a condition called 'Hydrocephalus' which is the build up of fluid in the ventricles deep within the brain that can occur to infants.

Hydrocephalus shunting involves the implantation of two catheters and a flow control valve system to drain the excess accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from the brain's ventricles (or the lumbar subarachnoid space) to another part of the body where it can be absorbed.
