Balloon Angioplasty for Arteriosclerotic Vascular Disease or ASVD
Image Description:
Atherosclerosis is a disease of the arteries and is characterised by the build up of fatty material within an artery vessel wall. Shown here is a healthy vessel with no fatty material compared to a vessel that does have atherosclerosis and where the artery wall has thickened. To combat this there is a surgery technique called coronary stent placement surgery and it is used to increase the safety and effectiveness of balloon angioplasty.
