Orthopedic Images

Medical Orthopedic Pictures

At the MSIC we have created Orthopedic Pictures specifically in order to visually explain the diagnosis and injury to the musculoskeletal system, as there are specific diseases and disorders that adversely affect the function and overall effectiveness of this system.

There is a need and a market for medical illustrations like these Orthopedic Images because these illustrations can be used as ‘at-a-glance’ visual reference material to accompany written text. These type of specialist illustrations are used primarily to help educate and describe the subject of orthopedics for use by the general public, patients, students, and all users will benefit from understanding what the injuries and surgery looks like and the treatment available.

Orthopedic Images will count as part of patient education and have been used on patient education websites, in textbooks, leaflets, manuals, TV adverts, publishing, advertising, marketing, medical device products.

Orthopedics

Orthopedics is the medical specialty that focuses on the diagnosis, correction, prevention, and treatment of patients with skeletal deformities and musculoskeletal disorders of the skeleton, bones, muscles, joints, cartilage, ligaments, tendon, nerves and connective tissues and even the skin with conditions such as dermatomyositis. This anatomy makes up what is termed as skeleton (the skeletal system), muscles (muscular system) hence the musculoskeletal system.

Orthopedic surgeons specialise in just this area of anatomy so that they can gain specific expertise when it comes to the diagnosis and treatment of trauma or injury to the musculoskeletal system. This is because there are specific diseases and disorders that adversely affect the overall effectiveness of the musculoskeletal system. So the role of the orthopedic surgeon will be to use both surgical and non-surgical treatment treating conditions such as sports injuries, spine disease to degenerative disorders, to muscle disease to fractures.

Orthopedic Images

As a stock image provider we offer a resource of full colour images within the branch of orthopedics. Our collection of Orthopedic Pictures offers customers the opportunity to purchase easy to use reference material presenting clinical orthopedic matters in a clear and straightforward manner. The illustrations cover subjects of musculoskeletal anatomy both healthy and diseased. There are illustrations with emphasis on minor orthopedic procedures, disorders, physical exams, treatments and surgical procedures.

All the artwork has been created by professional medical artists who have been trained in human anatomy and therefore have the knowledge and understanding of orthopedic anatomy that allows for the creation of accurate and precise drawings and educational visual materials.

Common Orthopedic Disorders

Common disorders to be treated are rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis that affect the joints. Joint issues can also result in elbow pain and cause problems such as medial epicondylitis or golfer's elbow, lateral epicondylitis or tennis elbow, or cubital tunnel syndrome. Surgeons will also treat fractures to the hip, lower back, ankle, hand and foot. Soft tissues conditions are included as part of musculoskeletal system such as nerve issues like carpal tunnel syndrome and knee issues such as torn meniscus and ligaments and other soft tissue injuries of the joints.

Disorders of Muscles

Disorders of the musculoskeletal system can bring about impairment to a person’s movement, motion and control. Diseases can vary from conditions such as myasthenia gravis which is a long term autoimmune disease that involves production of antibodies that block acetylcholine receptors at the junction between the nerve and muscle. Face and neck muscles are affected, manifesting as drooping eyelids, double vision, difficulty swallowing and general fatigue. Other conditions of the musculoskeletal system can be cerebral palsy, mitochondrial myopathies, compartment syndrome, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, dermatomyositis.

Orthopedic versus Orthopaedic

The difference in spelling between US English and UK English is that the US spelling doesn't have the 'a' within it. Although we are a British stock image company the majority of our customers are international and especially in the USA. Therefore we chose to use the US English spelling 'Orthopedic' for this page rather than 'Orthopaedic'. Just thought we would explain!
