External and Internal View of the Female Breast Anatomy

Image Description:

The illustration shows a woman standing to the side at a lateral view in order to show the woman’s breasts at a side view. The first illustration is an external view to show the breast without the addition of anatomy so that it can be compared to the second illustration which shows the internal anatomy of the female breast. The skin of the breast has been removed to reveal the inner tissues of the breast as it would be under the skin.  The breast tissue anatomy that has been illustrated is the chest wall near where the ribs are located, fat tissue, lobes of mammary gland, lobule, duct, alveoli, areola, nipple, suspensory ligaments. These illustrations feature an African American / woman and which were originally created for an educational series of illustrations for anatomy posters.
