Heart and lung anatomy, anterior view
Image Description:
The illustration is of the surface anatomy of the heart and lungs in anterior view. Lungs exchange gases from the body's blood vessels so that oxygen is delivered to the body and carbon dioxide is removed.
The position of the lungs lie either side of the sternum so they are protected by the rib cage and the lungs fill the inside of the chest cavity.
The left lung is slightly smaller than the right lung to allow room for the heart.
