Injection into the facet joint of the lumbar vertebra. Facet joints are pairs of small joints in between the vertebrae in the back of the spine. As well as the lumbar spine, the injections can be used for facet joint in the cervical or thoracic region. The lumbar facet joint injection illustrated here involves injecting a small amount of local aneasthetic or a steroid medication in order to anesthetize the facet joints and block any pain.
