Oromandibular Dystonia
Image Description:
Illustration showing oromandibular dystonia. Oromandibular dystonia is a neurological disorder, characterised by forceful contractions of the face, jaw or tongue, often causing difficulty in opening or closing the mouth, chewing or speaking. Sometimes it is seen together with blepharospasm, and in this case it is known as Meige’s syndrome. Treatment is often similar to that of blepharospasm, including injections of the neurotoxin botulinum (Botox) or drugs to control the symptoms.
