Procedure for Lung Biopsy

A thin needle is inserted through the chest and into the lung in the area of the tumour. The procedure is usually done under local anaethetic. For tumours in areas difficult to access a surgical biopsy under general anaethetic, involving opening the lungs to gain access may be necessary.
