Osteoporose – German Labelling
Image Description:
Osteoporosis is a condition in which bones are weakened, making fractures and breaks more likely. It is particularly common in post-menopausal women as their sex hormone levels decrease, and women are more likely to have smaller bones than men, making them more susceptible to the condition. However, men are also prone to the condition as they age as well. Other factors that can increase the risk of developing osteoporosis include long term use of corticosteroids, low BMI and heavy drinking and smoking.
The condition increases the likelihood of suffering from fractures and broken bones. Spinal fractures are often seen, leading to the development of a stooped posture in some older people.
Regular exercise, healthy eating and taking Vitamin D supplements can help prevent the development of osteoporosis.
